yoga tips – drop back with the wall
I have been teaching yoga for 22 years. I came to yoga then because I was not only depressed but suicidal as well. During that time, my state of mind was so bad that I constantly dreamed of how to kill myself. My friend dragged me to my first yoga class and insisted yoga would help with my emotions. I resisted by saying, "How can yoga help with your emotions?" I had done other exercises and other fitness classes. I was a runner, playing volleyball, basketball and tennis and doing all kinds of fitness exercises. I thread myself into weights, crunch and sit up. I was plagued with worry, guilt, anger, insomnia, depression and grief. Nothing had helped me until yoga. yoga really saved my life. Now, twenty-two years later; I am a dedicated yoga teacher with a passion for motivation. depressed or suicidal; and I urge them to come to experience the difference in yoga.
From the first hour I tried, yoga was hard for me. The poses were not so difficult to follow but my hamstrings, hips and back muscles were very tense and the stretching hurt. Breathing contradicted breathing while exercising, exhaling through the mouth to maintain the power of exercise. In yoga, you breathe continuously through the nose. You breathe deeply, stretch your stomach and sometimes hold your breath for a few seconds. I was determined to find yoga.
The movements were slow and thoughtful. The repetitions of the movement felt monotonous. Yoga has been working on your strength and you have had to hold for some poses, such as a down dog or plank pose or an inversion posture looonnngggg Moments.
Why does modified yoga work against depression and anxiety? I think it's a combination of elements. First, modified is a simpler yoga class than a regular beginner class. I personally share and encourage my clients to do exactly what everyone in my class can do. There is an acceptance and spirituality that exists in a restful or modified yoga class. The room itself is very calming and not intimidating.
Yoga teaches you to stay fully in the present moment. To do well the poses require concentration, strength, balance and a willingness to complete the pose. When your thoughts wander, you can get out of balance and fall. Plain and simple. The slow breathing brings in more oxygen, which then blows out your organs like the liver, which contains negative emotions like grief and anger. Breathing and poses are specifically designed to rid the stomach of gases and stimulate blood circulation. The injected posts bring a flow of blood into your brain that stimulates and invigorates your brain, skin, and lungs, helping to change your mood. The poses; Open your torso and hips, causing your heart to open. When you change your physiology from a closed, tight and seemingly cautious position to a more open one, your body begins to trick your mind. Oh, when I stand like that, I can not be depressed. If my chest is high and my arms are outstretched, I may be happy, at least not sad.
In the present moment, if you really stay there during the yoga pose, you realize that there is nothing in your life that is happening right now. They are doing very well. If you snap your fingers; This snapshot is how fast a current moment passes. There is nothing alarming or immediate in your head, no annoying voices saying that you are worthless. It's just that you are mindful and take a moderate, focused yoga posture.
Another element in a modified yoga class that helps with depression is meditation. I meditate in almost every one of my yoga classes. When meditation is practiced, it helps the client to stay in the present moment and also makes them feel that they are loved, cared for and there is a safe place in. There are many different types of meditation, including color meditation, question and answer meditation, open eye meditation, etc.
Yoga first requires a lot of focus and discipline. Modified yoga is a discipline, but it's easier than a normal exhausting mat class. You practice the poses and the breathing, and you practice NOT to beat yourself and to accept that you are not perfect. As you develop in yoga, your self-confidence also develops. At some point on the street, you realize that it is not too long ago, that you have something of the strength and condition, the poses of yoga and now you can do it. You may not have had good luck with your balance in the past and now you stand on one foot for a minute or more.
The really important thing about a modified yoga class is that it is not as difficult as power yoga everyone , or nearly Everyone can do some form of modified yoga. I modified the mat and chair. You experience acceptance and not rejection, which makes you feel better. Self-acceptance is a very important element in eliminating depression and anxiety.
By accepting yourself, you can see that you are not perfect and therefore you do not have to perfect everything. They do not have to take responsibility for the happiness or choices of others who lead them to the discontented place of their lives. So if you're struggling with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts, get help. Some counseling can really help and go to a restful or modified yoga class.
