I have many friends in my circle who are seriously practicing yoga for decades without practicing yoga poses. My story is similar. I'm always curious how someone discovered yoga.
Meditation - An Inner Limb of Yoga
Many years ago, I meditated and played with a yoga meditation group. I use the word "play" because, though meditation is considered serious, we have chosen fun and fulfilling activities that have transformed us into a service community. The experience was mentally and spiritually very fulfilling and we have never practiced yoga poses as a group.
In those young days, we sat lightly and comfortably on the ground, with our legs crossed. Let me correct this statement about not practicing yoga poses as a group. This ability to sit quietly on the floor and stand upright, and yet I look at not one, but two yoga poses!
One of the group's activities was the creation of inspirational thoughts, great ideas, or elicitation of questions. Every day a new thought was written on a tablet outside the meditation center and many stopped to take in drops of inspiration.
Recently, another meditator remembered her story of the beginning of yoga, saying, "I felt I missed something in my life, I passed the Virtue Tablet every day, read it, and gave comfort and food for thought. " She revealed that this was the time she began to analyze life instead of just looking at the everyday. She started going this route to work just to read "a board a stranger had brought out." Curiosity led her to the meditation center. This visit began her journey with meditation and strangers became her friends - a community.
The meditator - a promising therapeutic yoga teacher
What would make a meditator with little or no experience with poses a good candidate to teach yoga for well-being? Although there are many benefits, I would like to highlight three that lead me to this conclusion.
Open Mind: This means you can focus and concentrate better. What a fruitful learning environment!
Less reactive: Another precious jewel in the meditator's jewelry box is the ability to distance oneself to an emotion. She is less responsive to situations and people. This force can be considered as the ability to accept unpleasant conditions without automatically reacting. That's two advantage.
Less stressed: From time to time situations in a learning group that cause stress. Someone with a more reactive nervous system is more likely to experience combat, flight, and frost reactions, as well as anxiety and depression. Learning requires receptivity. Advantage number three is the experience of less stress and more receptivity.
With the willingness and willingness to learn and teach basic poses, a meditator can, in my opinion, actually complete a therapeutic yoga teacher training.
